Come, my friends. The Ents are going to war. It is likely that we go to our doom. The last march of the Ents.

Treebeard , also known as Fangorn, is a character featured in The Lord of the Rings. He debuts in the second film of the original trilogy and is voiced by John Rhys-Davies.

Treebeard is based on the character of the same name from The Lord of the Rings novels by JRR Tolkien and loosely alludes to Tom Bombadil.

Etymology[]

  • Treebeard's true name is Fangorn, coming from the Sindarin element, fang, which means "beard" and the element orn, translating to "tree."

Character Notes[]

  • In The Lord of the Rings, Treebeard is thousands of years old, but is younger than Gandalf, who was born since the creation of Earth.
    • It is confirmed that Treebeard is the oldest of all the trees.
  • It is unknown if Fangorn Forest came from Treebeard or vice versa and is probably the former of the two.

Production Notes[]

  • Some of Tom Bombadil's lines in The Fellowship of the Ring book were transferred to Treebeard, making him allude to Bombadil and his forest alludes to the Old Forest.
